Basic Healing Times

(all times are approximate and vary greatly from person to person)

Navel, Nipple: 9 to 12 months. Clean twice daily with anti-bacterial soap for 6 months and once a day there after.

Cartilage including septum, tragus, rook, daith, anti-tragus, conch, helix and their potential combinations and variations: 4 to 9 months depending on placement, gauge of jewelry, your cleaning routine and how your body chemistry works with the healing process. Wash twice daily for the first 4 months and once a day there after with an appropriate cleanser. Do not rely on any topical solution actually encouraging healing. The Most important part of cleaning is to properly rotate rings or agitate barbells to introduce an anti-bacterial soap into the piercing and to rinse away dead blood and skin cells from within the piercing.

Tongue: 6 to 8 weeks healing. Oversized jewelry is required for the initial potential swelling period. Downsize at five weeks to a more comfortable jewelry size. Do not excessively chew or tug on your barbell. Rinse twice daily with a peroxide based oral rinse AND rinse after you introduce anything into your mouth, person place or thing...if you eat, drink, smoke, kiss or whatever, with Listerine or a comparable mouthwash.

Labret: 2 to 4 months. Must be cared for with an anti-bacterial soap from the outside and like an oral piercing from the inside.

Eyebrow: 6 to 8 weeks. Wash twice daily while healing and once there after. Barbells must allow room to properly clean especially until healed.

Nose: 2 to 4 months. Wash twice daily while healing and once daily there after. Nose screws and captive rings are appropriate jewelry. Watch out for pointy studs that poke your septum and trap contaminants inside the piercing.

Earlobe: 6 to 8 weeks. Wash twice daily until healed once a day there after. Do not use restrictive jewelry that you cannot properly clean especially during the healing time.

Hood and Labia: The thinner female genital piercings heal very rapidly, 6 to 8 weeks in general. Wash twice daily until healed then once a day. Initial sensation will not usually prohibit normal activity, although you will want to pay special attention to keeping your new piercing clean. Genital piercings usually do prohibit sexual activity for a brief period of time. Wash piercings twice daily until healed.

Triangle: 4 to 6 months. Deeper variations of the female genital piercings, do of course, take longer to heal. Wash piercing twice daily for first 4 months then once a day.

Prince Albert, Dydoe, Frenum: The shallow male genital piercings heal very rapidly, 6 to 8 weeks in general. Wash twice daily until healed and once a day after. Initial sensation will not usually prohibit normal activity, although you will want to pay special attention to keeping your new piercing clean. Genital piercings usually do prohibit sexual activity for a brief period of time. Wash new piercings twice daily until healed then once a day.

Ampallang, Reverse P.A.: 4 to 6 months. The deeper male genital piercings, of course, take longer to heal.
